97/100 James Suckling
J.S tasting : ‘ Very deep nose of forest berries and violets. Then comes a very concentrated and surprisingly velvety palate. The very fine tannins and healthy acidity give this wine an extremely elegant profile, flowing effortlessly towards nirvana. Drink it or keep it’.
Description
Located just south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, Meursault is the largest white wine commune in the southern Côte-d'Or. The excellent quality of the Premiers Crus makes up for the fact that this appellation has no Grands Crus. The Meursault "Charmes" vineyard is located just south of the village and is renowned for being one of the climates producing the finest wines in the appellation. The mineral, well-drained soil is perfect for Chardonnay and the wines are opulent, with aromas of ripe peaches, apples and hazelnuts. The name "Charmes" indicates that this parcel used to be a plateau with little vegetation or wasteland.
Vinification & Maturing:
- Traditional fermentation in oak barrels, 100% malolactic.
- Ageing: 8 to 10 months in oak barrels, 50% new
- Barrels: Tonnellerie Louis Latour, French oak, medium toast
- Tasting notes: Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" has an attractive pale yellow colour. The nose is intense with notes of yellow peach and brioche bread. Full-bodied on the palate, with aromas of almond, toast and pineapple. Very fine minerality on the finish.
- Food & wine pairing: Bouchée à la reine - quasi de veau - pike - morels - cheese
