Château Magdelaine is an 11.3 hectare wine estate located in Saint-Émilion in the Gironde region. it was classified Premier Grand Cru Classé B but following the merger with the Château Bélair-Monange, the Château Magdelaine is no longer listed as 1er grand cru classé B in the 2012 revised list of grands crus classés of Saint-Emilion.
What are the specificities of Château Magdelaine?
The Château Magdelaine dates at least from the 18th century when it belonged to the Chatonnet family. At the beginning of the 1950s the estate was put up for sale. It was acquired in 1952 by Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix who replanted the vines and modernised the winemaking process.
The Château Magdelaine has very good neighbours. The property is located close to Château Ausone, Château Bélair-Monange and Château Canon, at the entrance to the limestone plateau.
Remarkably placed, an impression of class emanates from the wines of the Château Magdelaine. This cru is characterized by a silky touch on the palate, a lot of flavour and a refined grain of tannins often followed by a nice aromatic length.

Most of the vines are nearly 35 years old. But the oldest plots of Magdelaine date back to the 1920s!
For the production of Château Magdelaine, the winery uses thermo-regulated concrete vats and since 2004, it has also had stainless steel vats for fermentation. The Château Magdelaine is aged in 40% new French oak barrels on average for about 18 months before bottling.
Château Magdelaine is best with at least 5-10 years of bottle age. Obviously, this can vary slightly depending on the vintage.
The Château also produces a second wine "Les Songes de Magdelaine".
