Château Mouton Rothschild 2012
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Rated

Vintage 2012 collector's label: The illustration was personally chosen by the Philippine Baroness de Rothschild, who died on August 22, 2014. It was entrusted to the Catalan painter and sculptor Miquel Barceló, born in 1957, who created a world that is both realistic and dreamlike, with intense chromaticism, where the mixed techniques and materials used give a striking relief to the represented object. His fresco for Mouton 2012 revisits the historical emblem of the Castle. His two rams, symmetrical and confronted, remind us that the balance and harmony of a great wine, present in nature, also remain a challenge to be met by the work of men.

Commented by Neal Martin on January 31, 2017: "Tasted at the vertical Mouton-Rothschild in London, the 2012 Mouton-Rothschild clearly has the upper hand over the 2011 Mouton-Rothschild, if not quite at the level of the 2009, 2010 Mouton-Rothschild and what I envision for 2015. There is obviously a greater intensity of fruit here, as if the contrast had been increased by a few notches. The nose is quite conspicuous, with aromas of pure black cherries, graphite and notes of cold slate, later that touch of seaweed that I had observed during a blind tasting a few months earlier. The palate is beautifully balanced, with a lot of liveliness and vigour. This is a Mouton that will not be belittled - lively, lively and well defined with wonderful concentration and, above all, impressive persistence on the finish. Don't underestimate this Mouton-Rothschild, as I can see a bounce as it matures in the bottle. Tasted in April 2016".
