Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts St Georges 2016 - Faiveley

92+/100 Parker

Cellaring : 2026 - 2050

Tasted by William Kelley on April 30, 2019: "Tasted in bottle, the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts-Saint-Georges is one of Faiveley's most brooding and reserved wines this year, unfolding in the glass with notes of earthy black cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, roasted game birds and rich spice. On the palate, it is deep and concentrated, with a tight core, an abundance of fine but firm structuring tannins, and a long, sappy finish. If opened today, this Nuits is best on the second or third day, and while it is excellent, it will require more patience than almost any other vintage in the lineup."

The anecdote : These vines are dear to the family since they are the first vines bought by the Domaine in the 1830s.

CHARACTERISTIC OF THE APPELLATION :

The origin of the appellation remains uncertain. Perhaps it is an ancient form of pear tree. Located in the south of the village, the climate of "Les Porêts" can be compared to "Saint-Georges" in a slightly more rustic style . As early as 1855, this place was considered one of the best of Nuits by Dr Lavalle in 1855.

TERROIR :

Exposure: East

Soil : Brown limestone, gravelly, deep.

Grape Variety : Pinot Noir

Surface : 1 ha 68 a 97 ca - [4,17 Acres].

Year of planting: 1945, 1954, 2005, 2011

VINIFICATION & MATURING :

The grapes are cut and sorted by hand. The proportions of destemming and whole harvest vary according to each vintage. A daily pigeage is carried out to extract from the skins of the grapes their color, tannins and aromas. After 19 days of vatting, the alcoholic fermentation is completed. The free-run wine is run off by gravity while a slow and gentle pressing of the marc allows us to obtain a press wine of great purity. For 16 months, our wines are aged in French oak barrels (of which 40 to 50 % are new and 50 to 60 % are barrels of 2 wines) in our cellars at a natural and constant hygrometry and temperature. These barrels are selected for the finesse of their grain and their moderate toasting.

TASTING :

Deep ruby color. The nose expresses itself on notes of black fruits and woody, empyreumatic aromas. After a round and ample attack, the wine reveals itself powerful and robust. Well-balanced and of excellent holding, it has a good ageing potential.

Food and wine pairing: smoked duck breasts and foie gras, game, hare stew, roasted or grilled red meats.

Temperature: 14°C to 16°C

Ageing potential: 7 to 12 years
