Tasted by William Kelley on January 14, 2021: "Aromas of cherries, raspberries, sweet earth tones and spice preface the 2019 Rully 1er Cru Chapitre, a layered, enveloping wine with a generous core of fruit, ripe tannins and a charming, demonstrative profile. Like its white counterpart, this is the most indulgent and immediate of Dureuil's red premiers crus."

    

- Lieu-dit: Chapitre. This is the name of the Climat and the lieu-dit it encompasses. Neighboring the houses of the village, it belonged to the famous Chapter of the Canons of the Cathedral Saint-Vincent de Chalon (built on an ancient temple with the vocation of Saint-Etienne since the 5th century, dedicated today to Saint-Vincent, the patron saint of the wine growers). The decisions of the Council of Aix-la-Chapelle (in 816) had prescribed to add to the episcopal see a College of Canons observing the monastic rule and living near the cathedral church. This College was called "The Chapter". In the wine-growing regions, these canons also wanted to have their own vineyards and ensured that they were well cared for.

- Geographical situation: Center of the Appellation with an eastern orientation. This parcel is sunny and early, enclosed by a wall, at the bottom of the hillside.

- Grape variety : Pinot noir

- Vines : Planted in 1958 for a total surface of 66 ares 10

- Soil and subsoil : Clayey

- Vinification : Manual harvest, passage on two sorting tables : a vibrating table and a belt table. The grapes are then destemmed or not depending on the vintage and put in truncated wooden tanks. The harvest is then cooled and the vinification takes place after one week of cold maceration (at the end of the harvest). Pigeage or pumping over depending on the vinification phase.

- Maturation: In a 19th century cellar. 12 months in barrels (33% new) with malolactic fermentation, then 6 months in stainless steel tanks. Bottling according to the lunar calendar.

- Personality of the cuvée: The long maturing process allows this wine to age very well. The robe is concentrated and offers aromas of ripe fruits. The tannins are always fine on this terroir, the mouth is always full.

- Serving temperature : 16°.
