Crozes-Hermitage wines are among the most famous appellations in France's Rhône Valley.
Crozes-Hermitage is one of the most prestigious appellations of the Northern Rhône Valley in France. Located on the left bank of the Rhône River, just north of Valence, this AOC is renowned for its red wines made exclusively from Syrah, and its more limited production of white wines crafted from Marsanne and Roussanne. With a variety of terroirs ranging from rolled pebbles to clay-limestone soils, Crozes-Hermitage delivers a wide range of wines that are both elegant and expressive.
At Comptoir des Millésimes, we offer a handpicked selection of Crozes-Hermitage wines, sourced directly from over 300 trusted winemakers. All bottles are stored in our own cellar under optimal conditions. Looking for expert advice? Our team is here to help you choose the most prestigious vintages and the top producers of the region.
The 2020 vintage in Crozes-Hermitage produced wines with excellent ripeness and aromatic purity. The red wines are rich in dark fruit and spice, displaying the classic characteristics of Syrah: black pepper, black cherry, violet, and licorice.
These reds offer immediate pleasure, thanks to their soft tannins and round texture, yet they retain the structure needed for medium-term cellaring (5 to 8 years).
The white wines from 2020 are equally charming, featuring floral and fruity profiles with notes of apricot, pear, and sometimes a hint of honey or almond, all supported by refreshing acidity.
Reds: black cherry, blackberry, plum, spices, black pepper, violet
Whites: white flowers, stone fruits, apricot, subtle notes of dried fruits
Red Crozes-Hermitage wines are structured yet supple, with a generous mouthfeel, lingering fruit, and often a touch of mineral elegance that reflects the Northern Rhône’s signature.
White Crozes-Hermitage wines are balanced and fresh, offering a smooth texture and delicate aromatic complexity.
Red wines: 16°C to 18°C (60–64°F)
White wines: 10°C to 12°C (50–54°F)
Syrah (100% of red production): the iconic Northern Rhône grape, known for its spicy, floral, and dark-fruit character.
Marsanne & Roussanne: these two varietals are commonly blended to produce rich, floral, and subtly nutty white wines.
Similarity :
Grilled or roasted red meats: lamb chops, ribeye, duck breast
Hearty stews and braised dishes: beef bourguignon, game dishes
Vegetarian options: mushroom risotto, roasted eggplant
Aged cheeses: Tomme de Savoie, Saint-Nectaire
Seafood and grilled fish: scallops, sea bass, shrimp
Poultry in cream sauces: chicken supreme, turkey with herbs
Fresh cheeses: goat cheese, young sheep’s milk cheese
Crozes-Hermitage is the perfect choice for wine lovers looking for a refined and approachable Syrah. It offers great value, with expressive aromatics and a balanced structure. While slightly less powerful than Hermitage, these wines are often more accessible and versatile than other neighboring appellations such as Côte-Rôtie or Cornas.
At Comptoir des Millésimes, we feature top selections from renowned estates such as Alain Graillot, Domaine Combier, Cave de Tain, and Yann Chave—names that define the quality of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation.
