Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl 2002 Vendanges Tardives - Zind-Humbrecht
The altitude of the vineyard, combined with the later climate of Hunawihr, means that the Clos Windsbuhl is often one of the last vines harvested on the estate. For the same grape variety, there can be up to three weeks of difference between the earliest plots on the Herrenweg and the Clos Windsbuhl.
This explains the aromatic quality of the wines of the Clos and their constant balance in acidity, a guarantee of good ageing. Often harvested late, the grapes of the Windsbuhl are rarely botrytised, probably due to the altitude, but often reach high levels of maturity.
The Clos today has a surface area of 5.5ha. The Pinot-Gris is in the majority, followed by the Gewurztraminer and the Riesling.
Tasting: A harmonious version, with a pretty note of cherry blossom blending with aromas of ripe pear, slivered almond, lemon parfait and clover honey. A well-knit style that shows off the spicy finish. Drink now through 2024.
