Pinot Gris Heimbourg 2014 - Zind-Humbrecht
Palaist sweetness rating: 2, not technically dry, but sugars are not evident on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness in the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing
Tasting: A floral, fruity, harmonious and slightly tempting version, offering notes of ripe apricot, Asian pear and papaya, and notes of Brazil nuts, green tea and candied ginger. The finish is well defined and long, with mineral smoke and salty accents. Drink now until 2024.
The small place called Heimbourg (9ha) is located on a hill east of Turckheim. Its steep slopes turn from south to west. The upper part, facing west, more exposed to the winds and having a leaner soil, is well adapted to Pinot-Gris. As it is not exposed to the sun early in the morning, the Heimbourg ripens slowly, does not reveal the noble rot until late in the day and therefore retains a nice acidity in the grapes. In 2014, it was not possible to let the noble rot settle (climate, fruit flies...), despite a very low yield. Fermentation was very slow and the wine stopped with a slight residual sugar.
Hint: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: technically dry or dry tasting wine. 2: not technically dry, but the sugars are not obviously apparent on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness in the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing.3: medium sweetness, more important in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4: Sweet wine. 5: Sweet wine, very close to a Late Harvest
Caution: The bottles of Alsace wine do not fit into the wooden boxes sold separately.
