Order wine : Château Angélus 2005
Saint-Emilion - First Grand Cru Rated A
100/100 Parker
When to drink this wine : Now to 2050.
Parker's tasting: "Truly brilliant, this wine scored in the triple digits at the 2005 horizontal tasting in Baltimore, as well as in Montreal at this mini-vertical. This sensational, opaque, blue/purple-coloured wine offers up notes of vanillin, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, and a hint of liquorice. The wine hits the palate with a cascade of rich, concentrated ripe fruit. The tannins are beautifully integrated but still present, and the wood, acidity, alcohol and so on are all beautifully assimilated in this magnificent, majestic vintage of Angelus. It can be drunk now, but it is still in its teens and that suggests it has at least another 25-35 years of longevity. (2015) "
TERROIR
The Angelus style is the marriage of a bold grape variety with an exceptional terroir. It is this unique character born of the southern slope of Saint-Emilion and its high proportion of Cabernet Franc that we like to find over the vintages. It is a composition reorchestrated each year, always in search of excellence.
Château Angélus 2020 is composed of a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc.
SERVICE
Château Angélus should be served at a temperature of 15°C, in a red wine glass of the "Bordeaux" type. The ideal quantity is 15 cl.
For wines that have not been aged in barrels, decanting is not necessary. Aeration in a carafe is recommended when the wine is young and has been aged in oak barrels. For older wines, it is preferable to decant them a few hours before serving them. This can also be done for young wines in the context of aeration.
