Bucking the Californian trend toward powerful, oaky wines, Clendenen set out to craft Burgundian-inspired wines focused on elegance, freshness, and complexity. The estate's name, meaning "good climate," perfectly reflects the winemaker's philosophy: to make the most of a cool terroir, tempered by oceanic influences, ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties.
Today, Au Bon Climat remains true to this vision, producing wines sought after for their timeless style and excellent drinkability. The estate works with some of the best vineyards on California's Central Coast, such as Bien Nacido and Sanford & Benedict, and practices precise, low-intervention winemaking.
