Product description

Château Beausejour-Becot 2001

1st Grand Cru Classified of St Emilion

Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot's 22 hectare vineyard is planted to 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc. There is also a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon in the vineyard.

The vines are on average nearly 45 years old. But there are also some old vines. In fact, some of their oldest Merlot vines go back nearly 75 years. The right bank vineyard is planted at a density of 6,600 vines per hectare. Although new plantings are being done at higher density levels, 7,200 vines per hectare.

The wine of Château Beau-Sejour Becot is aged in an average of 55% new French oak barrels. Although today, between 10 and 12% of the crop is aged in clay amphorae for an average of 18 months before bottling. Blending takes place fairly early for the Right Bank, in late December or January, after malolactic fermentation is complete.

Older vintages may need to be decanted very little, just enough to remove sediment. Château Beau-Sejour Becot offers its best tasting conditions and should reach its maximum maturity between 10 and 30 years after the vintage.
