Beaune Greves 1er cru blanc 2017 - Jacques Prieur
The exceptional mildness and sunshine in March and the first two weeks of April favour a very rapid development of the vine. The drop in temperatures at the end of April had no consequences and unlike in 2016, the frost spared the vineyard.
With temperatures still high, the vine's development cycles during the vegetation phase are dazzling (early and rapid flowering at the end of May/early June and "lightning" veraison, which ended on 10 August).
With a heatwave at the end of August interspersed with rainy spells, the process of grape ripening accelerated and 2017 is one of the earliest vintages since the beginning of the "2000" years.
The harvest began on August 29th at the estate.
GRAPE VARIETY & SURFACE AREA
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay on a plot of 0.54 hectares.
TERROIR
Nice plot overlooking the outskirts of Beaune.
Clay-limestone soil with predominance of strikes (small stones) and sand. The silica contained in the latter, favours heat and light, guarantees maturity. The wines are recognizable by their fine and fruity sides.
VINIFICATION & MATURING
The grapes are hand-picked in small crates and then the whole bunches are pressed in a pneumatic press. Alcoholic fermentation and ageing are 100% in oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation is 100%.
Maturing period: 20 months.
