La Mouline 2005 - Guigal
Cote Rotie - Guigal
100/100 Parker
Cellaring : Drink now or cellar until 2044.
Tasted by James Jeb Dunnuck on 28 August 2014: 'Another ridiculous effort, the 2005 Cote Rotie la Mouline pulls no punches and is perfectly balanced, deeply concentrated and shockingly rich, with a seamless, elegant and silky character to die for. Abandoning notions of smoky beef, iron, spring flowers and exhilarating black raspberry and blackberry, this classic La Mouline has nothing out of place, gorgeous purity and precision and incredible length. More in the style of the 2010, it can be consumed anytime over the next 2-3 decades."
Grape varieties: 89% Syrah, 11% Viognier.
Vinification: In temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Traditional pumping over. Fermentations: alcoholic/maceration for 4 weeks.
Maturation : Unique 40 months in new barrels
Geology of the soil : Vines terraced in the shape of a Roman amphitheatre. The terroir is composed of gneiss giving light-coloured siliceous soils mixed with limestone loess.
