Richebourg Grand Cru 2019 - Mongeard Mugneret

96/100 Parker

Cellaring : 2030 - 2060

Tasting by William Kelley on January 14, 2021 : " The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru was brilliant, offering a complex bouquet of cherries, berries and plums intermixed with oriental spices, rich soil nuances, rose petals and blood orange. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it is muscular and concentrated, with huge reserves of fruit that largely conceal its broad chassis of ripe, velvety tannins. Long and penetrating, this is the highlight of Vincent Mongeard's portfolio this year."

- This is one of the most beautiful vintages of the estate.

- Tasting note: The robe is feminine and the nose masculine. The sparkling mouth offers an incomparable richness, a generosity sometimes excessive. A Richebourg can be ruby, draped in velvet or dark red tending to night, black purple. The robe is always intense and dense, luminous and with carmine reflections. When young, the wine reveals aromas of Russian leather musk and hints of sandalwood on the nose. With age and maturity, it will evolve towards hawthorn and peach blossom. Two aromatic families stand out: nuances of lichen, undergrowth and mushrooms on the one hand, and notes of cherries, blackcurrant, cooked or candied fruit on the other. In its young years, the wine is explosive on the palate. Intense, violent, it needs several years to become expansive and warm. Elegant and racy, it is capable of a long life and becomes for the great years the image of voluptuousness. With sometimes more finesse than structure or, on the contrary, a massive fruit, an enthusiastic, stocky and muscular temperament.

- Surface of the appellation : 8 ha 03 a 45 ca

- Area in production at the estate: 31 a 12 ca

- Soil : Very clayey resting on limestone.
