Adrianna Vineyard White Stones 2019 - Catena Zapata
Chardonnay
99/100 Parker
Cellaring : 2021 - 2030
Tasted by Luis Gutiérrez on 31 March 2021 : "The stunning 2019 White Stones Chardonnay comes from a select group of 27 rows planted on Lot I of the Adriana vineyard, and the composition of these rows is soil with white oval stones covered with gravel. The Adriana vineyard is planted at an altitude of almost 1,500 metres above sea level in the Gualtallary district of Tupungato. The stony soil prevents deep root growth, which allows for optimal drainage. The soil is very low in organic matter and contributes to the permanently stressed conditions of the vine. The cool nights allow for very slow ripening, optimal acid retention and low yields."
Wine Advocate: "This is still a more austere wine than White Bones, more mineral and restrained, less aromatic, with great balance, a little more alcohol and with very good acidity, rounder and more Meursault than Chablis but still with fresh citrus and zesty flavours and still some spice (curry) due to the barrel ageing with flor. This year both whites show more personality, perhaps helped by the cooler year style but also because the winery has a better understanding of the place. It is still very young and undeveloped; it is drinkable now, but with more time in bottle it should develop more complexity. Now the finish shows acidity and salt, which makes it very vibrant. 6,600 bottles were filled in May 2020."
