Coteaux Champenois is a little-known Champagne appellation dedicated to still wines, whether red, white or rosé. At Adrien Renoir, based in Verzy, Pinot Noir takes centre stage to produce a rare and refined red wine. Made from old vines, this Coteaux Champenois Rouge is distinguished by its finesse, freshness and delicate structure, sometimes reminiscent of the great Pinots of Burgundy, while retaining the minerality and tension characteristic of the chalky terroirs of Champagne.
It cannot be called ‘red Champagne’, as the Champagne appellation is strictly reserved for sparkling wines. The correct term is Coteaux Champenois Rouge, a category produced in very small quantities and sought after by connoisseurs for its unique style and authenticity. It is a balanced, gastronomic wine, perfect for discovering another facet of Champagne's expertise.
