Moulin-à-Vent 2017 Clos du Grand Carquelin - Château des Jacques
Beautiful Beaujolais estate
93+/100 Parker
Cellaring : Drink from 2023 or cellar until 2045.
Tasted by William Kelley in 2019: "The 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin is open, unfolding in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, forest floor, candied bark, espresso roast and a spicy frame of new wood. On the palate, the wine is powerful, rich and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit, luscious acidity and ripe, powdery tannins, ending with a long oak-influenced finish. Although this wine is currently very marked by its aging, it promises to integrate nicely over time."
PRESENTATION OF THE CUVÉE
- Characteristics: A few meters from the windmill and La Roche, slightly more south-facing, Clos du Grand Carquelin asserts itself in a very different style. Here again, granitic sands predominate but are a little more clayey and deep (60cm).
- Vinification : Hand picked in small boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The fermentation is punctuated by punching down or pumping over, depending on the nature of the vintage.
- Aging and bottling: The wines are aged for 10 months in one, two and new oak barrels in our old 17th century cellar. The wood comes from the forests of the Nivernais, the Limousin and the Allier.
- Tasting / Food pairing : Particularly complex, the "Carquelin" is a fine and delicate wine. Charming, it is particularly lively in the glass. It accompanies all delicate dishes.
- Conservation : Two to three years are necessary for this wine to start to deliver itself. Its potential life is several decades.
