Domaine de La Solitude "Vin de La Solitude" 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape
A word from the estate: This wine is a tribute to our ancestor Paul Martin, who was one of the first French winemakers to sell his wine in bottles in the 18th century under the name "Vin de la Solitude".
We have re-edited the four original "Vin de la Solitude" labels for this wine.
This wine is elaborated according to the rules of the 18th century wine art.
Our research has shown that the blends were very different, where the Grenache grape variety did not dominate.
The wines were composed of a large number of co-fermented grape varieties. The macerations were longer than they are today.
Blend: 30% Counoise, 25% Grenache noir centenaire, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, 5% Clairette, 5% Bourboulenc, 5% Roussanne, Clairette rose, Grenache blanc.
Yield : 25 hl/hectare, 944 bottles and 100 magnums
Agriculture: sustainable
Vinification: All grapes are co-fermented and vinified in whole bunches.
This wine is vinified in truncated cone-shaped wooden vats.
Each grape variety is harvested at its own maturity, the first variety being Syrah, harvested at the beginning of September, and the last one being Counoise, harvested at the beginning of October.
Alcoholic fermentation is very long.
Tasting notes: Elegant and refined wine, tannic yet fresh.
Floral nose with black berries and spices.
On the palate, blackcurrant aromas, subtle tannins and great length.
96/100 Wine Spectator : JM
"Ripe and well-packed, with dense and racy loganberry, red currant and plum fruit flavors, picking up mineral, sweet tobacco and garrigue accents along the way. The long finish pulls everything together with a tightly grained and polished feel. Serious juice. Counoise, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc."
