By Jeb Dunnuck in 2015: "One of the best wines of the vintage today, the 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve le Clos du Caillou tastes more like a mature Bordeaux than a Chateauneuf du Pape. With notes of graphite, smoked meat, olive, tobacco, and black fruits, this beauty is full-bodied, concentrated, and textured, with plenty of tannin, but it possesses the elegance and purity characteristic of the estate. This is the first vintage of this cuvée, made from 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, and it will continue to drink beautifully through 2023+."
