Château Clinet | Grand cru de Pomerol

Château Clinet is a small estate in Pomerol that has grown in importance over the last 15 years and now produces one of the most sought-after wines in the region. The 9-hectare vineyard is located at the top of one of the most beautiful plateaux of Pomerol and is planted with Merlot (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). In the 1980s, Jean-Michel Arcaute married the daughter of George Audy, owner of Clinet, and in 1986, Jean Michel ran the estate. He retained the services of the cult oenologist Michel Rolland, who introduced the harvest much later, ensuring very ripe fruit and extending the shelf life of the wines in 100% new barrels. In 5 years, the wine of Clinet was compared to that of Pétrus, Lafleur and Le Pin, and sold at similar prices. Jean-Michel Arcaute was tragically killed in a boating accident in 2001.

Older vintages of Clinet will need aeration before tasting. They are wines for laying down, concentrated and powerful. They are excellent Pomerol. Clinet produces a concentrated and rich but extremely well-balanced wine with a finish that lasts. It is difficult to resist when young, but the wines of the best vintages will continue to improve for more than 10 years.
