Cornas 2019 Les Eygats - Domaine Courbis
94/100 Wine Spectator
Maturity : 2024 - 2038
Laurent and Dominique Courbis run this immaculate estate, located just at the border of the Saint Joseph and Cornas appellations, in the village of Châteaubourg. They own good chunks in each, with their Saint Joseph holdings concentrated in the sector between Cornas and Mauves. The latest addition to the lineup is a Saint-Péray. The 2018 is their first crop of the 1.5-hectare vineyard, so cut them some slack for making only a very good wine from those grapes. Pretty much every offering here is solid and fairly priced for the quality, although traditionalists may quibble at the use of new oak and the almost seamless ripeness routinely achieved in the past few vintages. The wines do sometimes come across as a touch glossy.
