Product description
3eme grand cru classé de Margaux
Vintage 2013: Opening on light and bright strawberries, this wine has a fresh presence on the palate and a quick cherry finish.
Château Desmirail vineyard
Château Desmirail's 37-hectare vineyard is planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. This represents an increase in their Cabernet Sauvignon vines. On average, the vines are over 25 years old. The vineyard is planted at a planting density ranging from 6,666 vines per hectare to 9,000 vines per hectare. The highest density levels are those of the most recent plantations. The terroir is made up of deep gravel, sand and clay soils.
The Château Desmirail vineyard is much more extensive today than it was at the time of the 1855 classification. At the time, there were plots of land in the communes of Cantenac and Soussans. Today, they also own vines in the commune of Arsac, not far from Château du Tertre.
To produce Château Desmirail wine, fermentation takes place in a combination of large wooden vats and stainless steel tanks in one of three different vat rooms. The oldest vines are vinified in the large oak vats.
The remaining grapes are vinified in the stainless steel vats. Unique to Château Desmirail, there are three vat rooms specially designed to recall different periods of Desmirail's history, making them interesting to visit.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in the vats. Château Desmirail's wine is aged in an average of 40% new French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months.
