Rouères 2018 - Domaine Belargus
Appellation Anjou Contrôlée
• 95/100 Parker
• Cellaring: 2030 - 2060
• By Stephan Reinhardt on July 8, 2021 : "Located on the eastern slope, Les Rouères is one of the three parcels listed in the original decree creating the Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru appellation, says Ivan Massonnat. The shallow, warm soils are underlain by pudding sandstone (concretions of rolled sand and gravel), which accumulate heat during the day and release it at night. This sunny terroir produces wines that are intense in fruit, complex and full-bodied, and the 2018 Anjou Les Rouères Belarus is a fine example. The intense straw yellow wine offers an intensely aromatic bouquet of ripe, stewed and concentrated fruit interwoven with delicate schist notes. Les Rouères is much more intense in fruit than any of the other Anjous from this exciting estate. On the palate, it is a silky-textured, rich and elegant Chenin, dense but well-balanced, fine and aromatic, with an exceptionally long and, thanks to firm tannins, enduringly structured finish, which easily fits into Markus Molitor's famous "physically drinkable" category. This is a dense, rich and powerful Rochefort (or better: dry Quarts-de-Chaume), firmly structured and enormously fruity, made from late harvested Chenin Blanc grapes. There is no need to look for purity, crushed stones and fresh fruit here. Although the wine has tension, finesse and purity, it is a rather baroque style made to be enjoyed over a decade and possibly decades. 14% alcohol (according to the back label, possibly more). Tasted in June 2021."
- Presentation of the cuvée : " Les Rouères " is one of the three parcels listed in the original decree creating the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation. Our parcel covers almost 3 Ha of the locality, exposed on the South-East slope of the Quarts-de-Chaume hillock. The soils, thin and warm, are based on pudding sandstone (concretions of sand and rolled gravel) accumulating the heat of the day and releasing it at night. This sunny terroir gives birth to charming, round and demonstrative wines. A fine bitterness, signature of this terroir, brings complexity and length in mouth.
- Domaine Belargus offers a selection of superb dry white wines each year. It is in the best vintages that Belargus produces great sweet wines by letting the magic of botrytis offer superb vintages.
