Domaine de la Noblaie – Chinon "Pierre de Tuf"

The estate’s signature cuvée

A true hallmark of Domaine de la Noblaie, "Pierre de Tuf" is an exceptional Chinon made from 100% Cabernet Franc, sourced from vines approximately 70 years old. It derives both its name and its soul from a centuries-old vat—hewn directly into the *tuffeau* (tufa) limestone rock in the 15th century—which imparts an incomparable energy and complexity to the wine.

The Terroir

This cuvée originates from two of the estate’s historic vineyard plots:

One situated on flint-rich clay (the "Cornuelles" of the Senonian age).

The other on a clay-limestone terroir.

Vinification and Maturation

Traditional vinification: A long maceration takes place within the historic *tuffeau* stone vat, accompanied by meticulous manual *pigeage* (punching down of the cap) using a wooden tool, designed to extract the full richness and aromatic complexity of the grapes.

Masterful aging: Transferred into 500-liter barrels and amphorae immediately following alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes a long, 20-month maturation period on its fine lees. It is then refined for a few additional months in vats before bottling.
