A word from the estate:
This wine pays tribute to our ancestor Paul Martin, a pioneer of bottling in France in the 18th century. He was one of the very first winemakers to market his wine under the name “Vin de la Solitude”. For this cuvée, we've resurrected the four original labels from the period, and taken great care to faithfully respect 18th-century winemaking methods. Our research revealed that the blends of the time differed significantly from today's practices: Grenache was not dominant, and the wines were made from the co-fermentation of a large number of grape varieties. Maceration times were also longer than those of today.
TECHNICAL DATA
Blend: Grenache 25% / Serine 22% (ancestor of Syrah) / Counoise 20% / Mourvèdre 20% / Cinsault 7% / Clairette 3% / Clairette Rose 2% Bourboulenc . Roussanne and Picpoul 1%.
Agriculture: Reasoned and sustainable
Vinification: All grape varieties are harvested at optimum ripeness, then co-fermented in whole bunches in truncated wooden vats.
Harvesting begins with Syrah in early September and ends with Counoise in early October.
Alcoholic fermentation is particularly long, in keeping with traditional practices.
Tasting notes: A wine of great elegance, both tannic and fresh. The nose reveals floral notes mixed with black berries and spices. On the palate, blackcurrant aromas are supported by subtle tannins and a remarkably long finish.
