"The 2023 Côte-Rôtie Améthyste was bottled just 15 days before my visit. Made from parcels located in Côte Brune, Côte Blonde, Lancement, Chavaroche, Fongeant, and Leyat, it is composed of approximately 50% whole clusters. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe and fresh black fruits—blueberry and black cherry—enhanced by a touch of pepper and blossoming into a floral note with aeration. Beautifully structured, this fleshy, round, and enveloping wine offers remarkable volume and tension, supported by refreshing acidity. The velvety tannins linger in an ethereal and floral finish, marked by notes of black cherry and lilac. Already remarkably harmonious, it precisely captures the identity of the "A vintage that combines generosity, freshness, and aromatic complexity in a particularly seductive way." Yohan Castaing

• A forward-looking blend assembled from several barrels for my tasting, Cote Rotie Amethyste is a blend of five lieux-dits - is dark fruity and plummy, but also vaguely herbaceous and edgy. On the palate, it's tannic but ripe, with a rich, silky feel and a long finish reminiscent of blackberries and dusty tannins."
