Located in Sarrians, in the heart of the Southern Rhône, the estate covers approximately 60 hectares of vineyards spread across several prestigious appellations. The wines produced here express the full richness of the garrigue, clay, and marl soils characteristic of this wine region. Rhône wine enthusiasts will find elegant, balanced, and remarkably expressive wines here.

A family story carried on by the Saurel family

The estate is currently managed by Christine and Eric Saurel, the fifth generation of winemakers. They took over the family business in 1986 with the ambition of producing wines true to their terroir. Their vision is rooted in a respectful approach to nature and all living things.

Their commitment to sustainable viticulture marked a significant turning point when the estate began its conversion to biodynamic farming in the 1990s. This pioneering approach allowed the estate to become the first vineyard certified biodynamic in the Gigondas and Vacqueyras appellations.

Today, the new generation is fully involved in the family adventure with Justine Saurel, who joined the estate after several experiences in the wine industry. This transfer of knowledge ensures the continuity of a unique expertise and a quality-driven vision for the future.

A pioneering biodynamic estate in the Rhône

Domaine Montirius holds a certification for organic and biodynamic agriculture. The vines have been cultivated according to biodynamic principles since the 1990s, and the wines are certified by labels such as Biodyvin.

This approach aims to preserve the vineyard's natural balance and reveal the unique character of each plot. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, and the winemaking process prioritizes precision and aromatic purity. The estate notably uses unlined concrete tanks to preserve the full expression of the fruit and terroir in the wines.

Thanks to this exacting philosophy, Montirius wines are prized for their finesse, freshness, and balance—qualities that distinguish the great wines of the Southern Rhône.
