Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur 2018 - Trapet
Jean & Jean-Louis TRAPET
(92 - 94)/100 Parker
Reviewed by William Kelley in 2020 : "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur unfurls with aromas of cherries, wild berries, dark chocolate and spices, framed by a deft touch of new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a deep and concentrated core of fruit built around suave structuring tannins, concluding with a long finish."
The 2018 vintage proved to be brilliant at this reference of Gevrey-Chambertin, an estate that seems to be going from success to success. Jean-Louis Trapet began harvesting on September 5th and kept a considerable proportion of whole bunches for vinification, with alcohol levels mostly between 13% and 13.5%. Yields were limited by the high percentage of old vines on the estate. Deep, concentrated and exquisitely elegant, these vines show remarkable consistency in style and quality, and although they bear the imprint of the vintage, they are not dominated by it. Everything reviewed here is highly recommended.
