Pinot Gris Schofwerg 2015 - Gustave Lorentz
Vintage 2015: This year, all the conditions are in place for 2015 to be a great vintage! The winter was not particularly harsh, and at the beginning of spring we benefited from more rainfall than in 2014.
The mild weather after Easter gave a boost to the vegetation. Flowering began in June, in favourable weather conditions. The heat of June and July favoured the growth of the vine, but soon a period of drought set in. The high temperatures (more than 40° at the beginning of July!) were accompanied by stormy episodes, fortunately, the rains in mid-August came just in time.
The reaction of the vine was spectacular with a resumption of growth and an acceleration in the ripening of the grapes. At the end of August, the vines were in perfect health. The weather conditions at the beginning of the harvest were ideal.
The sanitary state of the grapes is absolutely perfect. Moreover, the sunny days and the colder nights help to preserve the freshness of the grapes.
Service: 8 to 12°C
Custody: 8 to 10 years
Sweetness: Semi-dry
Magnificent Pinot Gris de Terroir, its nose is intense, powerful and racy, revealing aromas of dried fruit, and notes of brioche and smoke. The palate is fruity, juicy and full with aromas of sweet spices, candied fruit and yellow-fleshed fruit (mirabelle plum, greengage). The finish is long and generous with a cooked paste flavour.
Terroir : The Lieu-dit Schofweg, which means "Sheep's Path", located on the eastern edge of the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim, a well-ventilated terroir with the same marly-calcareous composition as this famous Grand Cru.
Food and wine pairing : Its slightly candied side will be marvellous on a lamb Tajine with aubergines and candied mandarins but also on spicy dishes from Thai and Indian cuisine.
