Château Haut Bailly 2010
Pessac-Léognan - Cru Classé de Graves
98/100 Suckling
Château Haut-Bailly 2010 stands out as a remarkable wine, confirming its full potential after several years of aging. The nose reveals a complex bouquet blending red and black fruits, wet stone, black olive, and a subtle touch of iodine that brings freshness and aromatic depth. Still reserved compared to some more open vintages, it nevertheless retains all its intensity and precision.
The palate, medium-bodied, rests on fine tannins and a full body that is gradually beginning to reveal itself. Structured and harmonious, the wine displays a beautiful tension accompanied by an elegant saline finish. Possessing great aging potential, this Haut-Bailly still requires patience to fully express its grandeur. Tasted in March 2017.
MORE INFO:
Terroir Today: The 33-hectare vineyard of Chateau Haut Bailly has 30 hectares planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. This represents a change in the vineyard with less Cabernet Sauvignon, more Petit Verdot, and a reduction in Cabernet Franc over the years.
In fact, as the Cabernet Franc vines die, they are now being replaced by Cabernet Sauvignon. There is also a very small percentage of Malbec and Carmenere.
The terroir consists of gravel, sandstone and sand over limestone soils. The sandstone of the soils contains a large number of petrified fossils, which adds to the unique character of the wine. The vineyard consists of one large block of vines, which is separated only by a small road in the vineyard.
