Ermitage Le Méal 2013 - Ferraton Pere & Fils
95/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2015 - 2035
By Jeb Dunnuck on 31 Dec 2015 : "The cream of the crop is the 2013 Hermitage le Méal. Not harvested until October and aged for 18 months in 20% new oak, it has murderous notes of jammy blackberry, black raspberry, crushed rocks, garrigue and olive tapenade. Possessing that kiss of sweet fruit that is common to this warmer terroir, this medium to full-bodied Hermitage has superbly pure fruit, no hard edges, fine tannins, and a big finish. It will keep for two decades."
100% Syrah grape variety. Vines are about 30 years old and grafted on site.
SOIL
Terraces of rolled pebbles facing due south on the Méal hillside.
VINIFICATION Destemmed
harvest, vinified in concrete vats (for better thermal inertia) for about 4 weeks (depending on the vintage). Extraction by pumping over and pigeage.
MATURING
In oak barrels for 14 to 18 months depending on the vintage (30 to 50% new barrels).
TASTING
Appearance : brilliant, very intense ruby.
Nose : small black fruits, some notes of leather.
Palate : powerful and concentrated wine. Lots of fullness and structure, long on the palate.
A wine to be kept for a long time.
