Hermitage 1985 - Jean-Louis Chave
Hermitage - Jean-Louis Chave
91/100 Parker
Parker's tasting: “Chave produced the best red Hermitage of this vintage. Yet for Chave, 1985 was not a year he remembers fondly. Holding back tears, he sadly declares that his beloved mother, as well as his faithful sidekick, his dog, passed away that year. Sentimental, Chave will probably put little of this vintage into the huge reservoir of old vintages his family has faithfully preserved throughout this century. His 1985 avoided the overloaded style of some of this vintage's other reds. The wine's deep ruby color shows some lightening at the edges. The intense perfume of smoked meat, blackcurrant and Provençal olives is followed by a rich, full-bodied, velvety wine that is just beginning to reach its peak.”
