- Tasted by Jeb Dunnuck in 2015: "Compared to the 1999, the 1998 Ermitage le Meal seemed slightly one-dimensional on the nose and left me wanting a little more complexity. However, it made up for it on the palate and was more expansive and opulent, with richness, terrific concentration and a surprising amount of tannic grip that came through on the blockbuster finish. With classic notes of oxblood, currants, smoky earth, and licorice, this rich, fabulously textured 1998 is one to drink over the next 2-3 decades."
