St Emilion Grand Cru
92/100 James Suckling
Aromas of dark fruit are joined by notes of chocolate, crushed walnuts, black licorice, and cedar wood. The palate is medium-bodied, with firm, chewy tannins in a tight, precise style, with an elegant finish marked by touches of crushed stone and walnut shell. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. An excellent second wine, to be enjoyed from 2025.
Château La Gaffelière and Clos La Gaffelière
Both belong to the Malet Roquefort family, the historic owners of La Gaffelière in Saint-Émilion. Clos La Gaffelière is another cuvée produced by the estate, but with a distinction often made between the main vineyard and specific plots.
Clos La Gaffelière is made from a selection of the estate's own vines, but may come from young vines or separate plots, making it a quality cuvée, but often a little more affordable than the grand vin of Château La Gaffelière.
