Saumur Clos de l'Écotard 2020 - Clos de l'Écotard
Thibaud & Michel Chevré
Cellaring: 2024 - 2035
By Stephan Reinhardt on October 14, 2021: "As 50% of the potential crop was lost in the spring frost, the 2019 Saumur Blanc Clos de l'Ecotard was one of only two wines produced here by Thibaud Chevré that year. From two hectares densely planted with vines averaging six years old (8,000 vines per hectare), the harvest yielded just 22.5 hectolitres per hectare (a selection). Aged in French barrels for 10 months, with malolactic fermentation excluded, the 2019 opens with a very fine and elegant yet intense bouquet of ripe pears, a hint of lemon juice and delicate earthy notes as well as yeast. Round and rich on the palate, this is a full-bodied Chenin, very intense and juicy but elegant, refined and textured with a very fine, saline, long and aromatic finish (ripe pears again). Persistent fruit aromas. An excellent, almost hedonistic Saumur bottled with a nice grip. Tasted in April 2021."
