Parker's 2014 tasting: “The 1978 Las Cases has taken on a garnet hue with some dark ruby highlights. The nose is more complex and penetrating than the flavors. The wine offers classic mineral, lead pencil, smoke and earth scents, with plenty of ripe fruit, without the herbal vegetal aspect that many 1978s have begun to exhibit. The attack is ripe, the acidity is higher than that of many more recent vintages, and the finish is very tannic. Although this wine possesses exceptional complexity, the high level of tannins will never completely dissipate.
