Château Mouton Rothschild 1964
Pauillac - Premier Grand Cru Rated
- Tasting notes: A light fruit nose. The palate is leafy and light, with notes of cold tea and a certain greenness. It seems to have gained some harmony in the glass.
- Storage: A very well-stored wine that should be enjoyed now.
- Art and label: HENRY MOORE. The son of a Yorkshire miner, the sculptor Henry Moore (1898-1984) studied at the Royal College of Art and, from the early 1930s, exhibited regularly with the Surrealists, recognising the influence of Brancusi and pre-Columbian art. From these two sources, he developed a new way of representing the human form that recalls great primitive notions such as royalty and fertility. He brings his massive figures to life by digging gaping holes, carving depths of emptiness into the solid mass. His work now places him at the forefront of contemporary sculptors. His design for the label of the 1964 Mouton Rothschild, three golden chalices held in the hand, evokes the solemn atmosphere of an ancient ritual.
- Conservation: Very good conservation for this old Mouton vintage.
