Nuits St Georges 2018 Les Vieilles Vignes - Daniel Rion

The vineyard: 

The Grandes Vignes, aged between 30 and 80 years, are on low-slope silty-clay colluvium (230m altitude), calcareous and very stony, which themselves rest on marls.

The parcel of Lavières, at an altitude of 250m, is slightly sloping. Its colluvial calcareous soil at the foot of the hillside is quite deep and stony, clay and silt. The vines are between 20 and 35 years old.

The vines at the origin of our Nuits Saint Georges Vieilles Vignes, located at an altitude of 245m, grow on a shallow, limestone, pebbly dejection cone at the bottom of the hillside.

In total, the estate exploits 2 ha 45 in the Nuits Saint Georges appellation.

Tasting of NSG old vines : 

They are all three aged on lees, in barrels, 50% of which are new. Rich and colourful, with aromas of wild fruits: blackberry, blackcurrant, with present and elegant tannins, such is our Nuits St Georges Les Lavières. Its intense and dark colour announces powerful and complex aromas: they mix blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry. The tannins are firmer for the parcels located in the South and more supple for those in the North of Nuits Saint Georges. They all present a solid structure. In an average year, the wines of Nuits St Georges will reveal themselves to you between 5 and 10 years; however, in years of ageing, their maturity can easily reach 15 years.

Food and wine pairing : 

Their power and structure allow them to be associated with all meats in red wine sauce such as the famous boeuf bourguignon, game, marinated, grilled or roasted red meats. A goose with chestnuts or a chicken with coarse salt will also allow them to express themselves fully.

Accords mets et vins : 

Leur puissance et leur charpente leur permettent de s'associer avec toutes les viandes en sauce au vin rouge telles le célèbre boeuf bourguignon, les gibiers, viandes rouges marinées, grillées ou rôties. Une oie aux marrons ou un poulet au gros sel sauront aussi leur permettre de s'exprimer pleinement.
