Pibarnon is one of the most renowned estates in Bandol in Provence, especially for its superb red wine that can be kept in the cellar for decades before being tasted at maturity. The estate extends over 52 hectares, 47 hectares of which are planted with red grape varieties and 5 hectares with white grape varieties. The annual production of Château Pibarnon is close to 200,000 bottles.
Robert Parker's opinion on Chateau de Pibarnon: "Run by Eric de Saint Victor, who is aided by assistant winemaker Marie Laroze, Chateau de Pibarnon fashions some of the top wines from this incredible appellation. Any reader wanting to taste the best expression of Bandol should get on this estate’s bandwagon, as the price has yet to catch up to the quality."
Since the purchase of the estate in 1975, Comte Henri de Saint-Victor and his son Eric have produced some of the most seductive, aromatic and nobly structured wines in all of southern France. Perched atop the highest and northernmost part of the appellation, the château overlooks the panoramas of the amphitheatre of vineyards and the Mediterranean Sea.
While the flagship cuvée of Pibarnon is a classic vin de garde that can take up to ten years to show its full splendour, the Restanques, made up of 70% Mourvèdre and 30% Grenache, are designed for a more immediate, luxuriant texture. Not to be missed: the Bandol Rosé and the Blanc Blanc, considered as references of quality.
The 2016 vintage of Pibarnon is a very nice achievement in red and was rated 93/100 by the Wine Advocate. It can be kept until 2030 without any problem.
