Description : Located halfway between Dijon and Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges gave its name to the Côte de Nuits. "Les Damodes" are located in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, just south of the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru appellation. The climate of "Les Damodes" is said to be a compound of "Dame". The legend evokes fairies who would have frequented the rocky heights at this place. More likely, it would be the presence of rocks that could be confused with ladies in long dresses, "tall" ladies whose pronunciation drifted towards "damaudes" then "damodes" which would have given its name to this plot. On a shallow limestone soil, the vines are exposed to the east. Elegance and delicacy are the hallmarks of this wine.
Vinification & Maturing: Traditional fermentation in open vats, 100% malolactic.
Ageing: 10 to 12 months in oak barrels, 40% new
Barrels: Tonnellerie Louis Latour, French oak, medium toast
Tasting : Our Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Damodes" 2014 reveals an intense ruby colour. After a frank attack, aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice, cloves and grilled almonds are revealed. The wine shows great finesse and elegance.
Food and wine pairing : Leg of lamb - shallot tab - Epoisses
