William Kelley's tasting on January 14, 2021: "The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village shows nicely, blending wild berry and petal notes with rich spice, expertly framed by a judicious touch of toasty oak. Fleshy and succulent, with velvety tannins and lively acidity, it's a fine, gourmet example of the vintage."

ORIGIN AND SITUATION OF THE VILLAGE: Vosne Romanée appears in a writing around 636-650 under the name of Vaona, then successively Vadoa, Vanona, Voone (in the XIII century). At this period, Clotaire enumerates the goods of the Abbey of Bèze being in this commune. Simon de Vergy, Canon of St Denis, gives to the Abbey one of his vines (Le Cloître). In the 9th century, Vosne was part of the Priory of Saint Vivant, founded around 890 by Manasses I. It belonged to the order of Cluny. The country of Vosne is republican, revolutionary, praised by the Prince de Conti, who takes care to recover the good part of the inheritance. By deliberation dated May 7, 1865, the Town Council requests the addition of the climate "Romanée" in the name of the commune. The village will eventually take the name of Vosne Romanée following the imperial decree on April 11, 1866. The appellation Vosne Romanée is located on either side of the village, west of the R.N. 74, without crossing it. The coast remains straight, but the national road makes a wide turn. The soil, very permeable, is composed of scree that contains erosion. The piedmont is composed of brown calcareous soils resting on silt or marl. Our vines are particularly well exposed and are located in the following areas: Les Genévrières, Les Réas, les Violettes, les Vigneux. These toponyms make it possible to discover the origin of the place which very often relates to the history or the location of the place.
