Tasting notes by Joe Czerwinski: "The superb 2021 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Impériale comes from old vines in two sandy parcels, one at Pied Long and the other at La Crau. Exotic aromas of orange zest, Campari spices and deliciously ripe cherries appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is silky and creamy in texture, yet airy and vibrant, with a long, zesty finish. This is a definite contender for the title of wine of the vintage, alongside its mourvèdre-based stablemate, La Part des Anges."
- 90 % GRENACHE
- 10% BLEND OF OLD GRAPE VARIETIES
- The Cuvée Imperiale is the wine made from the oldest vines on the estate, most of which are a hundred years old (planted in 1901-1902). The yields are extremely low (16-18hl/ha) guaranteeing a dense and deep wine. The old Grenache vines bring their finesse and elegance to this wine, which can be aged for decades. If you wish to taste this wine before its first 2-3 years of ageing, you should decant it. Unfiltered wine, please excuse a possible natural deposit that is beneficial to the aging of the wine.
