Tasting by Yohan Castaing in 2024: ‘Made from equal parts Clairette and Clairette Rose planted on safres or sandy soils, Chateauneuf du Pape Pure Clairette 2023 is a benchmark wine for Clairette in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It has a lively, vibrant bouquet of ripe orchard fruit, spring flowers, jasmine and iodine. It is medium to full-bodied, elegant and taut, with an incisive, open and expressive mid-palate that builds to a saline, ethereal finish. Vinified and matured for eight months, 60% in wooden vats and 40% in large barrels, this wine will benefit from 3-4 years‘ cellaring to refine its texture’.
