Château Armens 2003
St Emilion Grand Cru
Château Armens is a magnificent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate, acquired in 1999 by Count Stephan von Neipperg (who also owns the renowned Château Canon La Gaffelière). Located in the southern part of the appellation, the vineyard—planted primarily with Merlot, alongside Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon—sits on sandy-clay soils with an iron-rich, hardpan subsoil. The vines are meticulously tended using organic farming principles, with soil management practices that respect biodiversity.
In the cellar, the wine undergoes parcel-by-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in oak barrels, resulting in a style that is modern, luscious, and refined. On the palate, Château Armens delights with vibrant aromas of dark fruit (blackberry, black cherry), hints of sweet spice, and a subtle toasted note. The wine is full-bodied, fleshy, and velvety, supported by ripe tannins and a lovely freshness—making it enjoyable in its youth while also possessing excellent aging potential.
