ORIGIN :This little-known appellation, located above Grand Crus such as Richebourg, benefits from an exceptional location. The elevated position of some plots of land is expressed by toponyms in "mont". The shape, the exposure and the dimensions are noted by means of determinants of a great variety: Les Petits Monts for their dimension.
CHARACTER OF THE WINE: The Vosne Romanée 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts" by its location is a wine of great complexity. With a low acidity and fine tannins, this wine is characterized by aromas of ripe fruit and flower essence. The undergrowth and humus blend with cherry, brandy and peony to culminate later in leather and wildlife fragrances. Sometimes smoked, it offers an ample, frank and velvety mouthfeel. Its finesse and elegance make it a wine of great harmony.
GASTRONOMY: Because of their finesse, typical velvety texture and delicate scent, these wines deserve a refined gastronomy, fine dishes from which marinades should be excluded. When it comes to game, it is preferable to roast it and prepare a sauce cooked separately. Game birds are more suitable, as well as butcher's meat or poultry. The "Petits Monts" go well with Burgundy cheeses. The more full-bodied venations accept fairly old wines that have taken on a wild, animal or truffle flavor.
STORAGE : This intense and fine wine develops harmoniously between 5 and 7 years, and continues to mature around 8 years or more in great years.
SERVICE : These wines should be served at a temperature close to 15°C, conducive to the release of aromas and a good appreciation of flavors. We recommend serving them in fine, wide-sided glasses (balloon or tulip glasses) filled to a third or a quarter only.
