Vosne Romanée Village 2015 - Magnum - Daniel Rion
92/100 Wine Spectator
The estate tells you all about it: Coming from several plots representing a total of 1 ha 90, one part is gently sloping, at an altitude of 250 m, in silt soil on rather deep clay, the vines are between 35 and 55 years old. The other part, 25 years old, comes from a very sloping plot at the top of the hill (300 to 325m), on black, gravelly, very chalky humus soil on scree slopes. The subsoil is also chalky and stony.
Vinified separately, the wines from these 2 parcels are blended only at bottling, after maturing on lees in 50% new barrels. The Vosne Romanée is the estate's bouquet of flowers. In Vosne-Romanée there is a place called Les Violettes, the well named for the aromas of this appellation. Scents of cherry and roses, with age this wine becomes complex, with a nose of undergrowth, dead leaves and mushrooms. Its tannins are discreet and unctuous, always elegant. It is best aged for 8 to 15 years according to your preferences.
You will find harmonies with game in a delicately seasoned sauce, some tasty poultry such as pigeon or quail with grapes. At the end of the meal, it will suit fine and delicate cheeses.
