Riesling Rangen de Thann 2018 Clos St Urbain - Zind-Humbrecht
Indice of sweetness on the palate of the 2018 vintage: 1, analytically dry or dry tasting wine.
The Rangen de Thann is the most southerly of the Alsace vineyards. In his book, Where Alsace wines ripen, Henry Riegert writes: « from the Middle Ages those wines which ripen on the Rangen hillside figure amongst the most famous growths of the whole vineyard region ».
The Grand Cru Rangen de Thann, is situated at the exit of the valley, overlooking the village of Thann with the river Thur passing at the foot of the slope.
Tasting: An aromatic and elegant version, with accents of ginger and spices with flavours of poached peach and pear, orchard flowers, smoke and saline solution. Supple and concentrated with firm acidity and a lingering, racy finish. Drink now until 2024.
Indice: Level of sweetness on the palate. Scale from 1 to 5.
1: wine that is analytically dry or tastes dry. 2: not analytically dry, but the sugars are not obvious on the palate. Some tasters may find a slight roundness in the finish. These wines will taste dry with some bottle ageing. 3: medium sweetness, higher in the youth of the wine, which will gradually fade with age. 4: Sweet wine. 5: Sweet wine, very close to a Vendange Tardive.
