Vieux Télégraphe 2005
Châteauneuf du pape
Vignoble Brunier
Tasting: "One of the most age-worthy cuvees in the appellation, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe’s 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape was gorgeous on this occasion, showing classic iodine, seaweed and peppery herbs intermixed with layers of sweet currant, plum and blackberry fruits. Full-bodied, powerful and ripe, with a still youthful profile, this beauty won’t hit full maturity for another 3-4 years, and should hold for a decade or more after that." 95/100 Jeb Dunnuck
GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION: stony plateau of the Crau (south-east of the appellation. Intersection of the villages of Bédarrides, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Courthézon). AREA: 50 hectares. SOIL AND SUBSOIL: Miocene molasses (1 to 1.5 m deep) resting on a thick layer of clay with a lot of pebbles, and covered by the mantle of alpine diluvium, commonly known as "galets roulés". VINIFICATION: Manual harvest with double sorting in the vineyard, followed by a third sorting in the cellar, light crushing and selective de-stemming, traditional fermentation for 30 to 40 days in stainless steel and wooden vats under controlled temperatures. Pressing in pneumatic press, systematic malolactic fermentation. AGEING: 20/22 months in 60 hectolitre French oak barrels. Bottled without fining or filtration. Putting on the market at 2 years.
