Volnay Les Échards 1997 - Domaine Rapet
Rare burgundy wine
The Volnay "Les Échards" from Domaine Rapet (François & Fils) is a lovely expression of Pinot Noir, sourced from the "Les Échards" *climat*—located in the northern part of the Volnay appellation, bordering Meursault. This *terroir*, defined by well-drained clay-limestone soils, imparts the suppleness and refinement characteristic of the Côte de Beaune.
On the palate, the wine reveals a brilliant ruby hue and an highly expressive nose centered on fresh red fruits (raspberry, crisp cherry), accented by delicate floral notes of peony and sweet spices. The attack is fluid and luscious, supported by a fine tannic structure—with well-integrated, mellow tannins—and a lovely mineral freshness that extends the finish. This is an elegant, approachable Volnay, ideal for enjoying in its youth or after 3 to 5 years of cellaring; it pairs perfectly with duck fillet, pan-seared veal, or mildly aged cheeses.
