Château Camensac 2007
Haut-Médoc - 5ème Grand Cru Classé
The 65-hectare vineyard on the left bank of Château Camensac is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Previously, the vineyard had other Bordeaux grape varieties, but at the suggestion of Emile Peynaud, they reduced the number of different grape varieties to just two, which is what remains planted in their vineyard today.
Château Camensac is located slightly east of the southern tip of the Saint-Julien appellation. In fact, their vineyard is not very far from Château Beychevelle. They are also close to other well-known vineyards in the Médoc, including Château La Tour Carnet and Château Belgrave. The terroir of Château Camensac consists mainly of gravel soils.
The vineyard is planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The vines are on average 35 years old. Harvesting is carried out using a combination of harvesting machines and hand-pickers.
The vinification of Château Camensac takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in a combination of vat and barrel. Château Camensac wines are aged for an average of 17 to 20 months in 35 to 70% new French oak barrels, depending on the character and needs of the vintage.
